Yoshi was a fantastic guide , easy to arrange and customize . We didn’t have a huge amount of time but we managed to do exactly what we wanted. He made us feel welcome and at ease straight away. We had the best time exploring Japan with Yoshi! He was so knowledgeable and shared tons of fascinating stories and insights. We had a lovely day hiking with Yoshi. He was there waiting for us at Nakatsugawa station. He is very friendly and knowledgeable about samurai history as well as other aspects of Japanese history and culture. The hike was lovely, we lucked out with the weather and the views were magnificent. It was a good break from city tourism to experience the countryside. I definitely recommend doing this activity, and Yoshi is a fantastic guide!

We recently had the pleasure of exploring Nagoya with our fantastic guide, Yoshi, and we couldn't be more grateful for the experience. As a family of four, including our two children aged 11 and 12, this was our first visit to the city, and Yoshi made it truly unforgettable.

From the moment we began our journey, Yoshi was a wealth of knowledge, particularly when it came to the fascinating history of the Samurai. My husband, who has a keen interest in this era, was enthralled by the stories and insights Yoshi shared about the historical sites we visited. It was wonderful to see him so engaged and excited! Our son, a true foodie, was also well taken care of. Yoshi introduced us to some amazing local delicacies, ensuring that every meal was an adventure for our taste buds. He even arranged fun activities to keep our son entertained, which made the experience even more enjoyable for him. As for our daughter, who loves handicrafts, Yoshi organized some delightful hands-on activities that allowed her to explore her creative side. It was heartwarming to see her so immersed in the local culture and traditions. Throughout the trip, Yoshi's exceptional skills as a driver, licensed guide, photographer and interpreter made everything seamless. He communicated everything clearly, translating from Japanese to English, which allowed us to fully appreciate each moment as a family without any language barriers.

We wish there were more than 5 stars to rate this fantastic team of guide and driver! Our private tour of Nagoya was a true highlight, thanks to Ryota’s expert knowledge and excellent planning. We chose to visit Touganji-Temple, Osu Shopping Street, Atsuta Shrine, and Nagoya Castle. Ryota greeted us right after we disembarked from our cruise ship and chauffeured us in a private car between each site, finally returning us safely to the port terminal. Fluent in English, Yoshi provided clear and insightful explanations of the history, customs, and culture throughout the tour. This delightful experience has definitely made us favor private tours over the crowded and costly cruise line excursions.

This area does not have as many foreign travelers as Nagano therefore a guide is recommend to get the most of hiking in this area. Yoshi was very professional and knowledgeable. We are very glad to have him as a guide. Without his assistance I fear we have been lost and not have easily gotten from place to place. Or have done what all other tourists have done: take the bus to Magome and hiked back instead of going from Magome to Tsumago. Our trek was not crowded and we were able to see amazing views with waterfalls. Definitely worth coming. And definitely worth hiring a guide.

Best tour guide in Japan

It was the best tour guide I ever had in Japan. Ryota Tsuchiya's knowledge of places we visited amazes me. In fact, understanding what you are looking at and all its history makes the tour really worthwhile. An added bonus, he is so friendly and fun. I highly recommend Ryota, and if 6 Star is an option, he deserves it.

My son and I recently hiked the Nakasendo Trail and while it’s a journey that can certainly be done independently, having Yoshi as our guide truly transformed the experience into something unforgettable. 

From the very first moment, Yoshi brought warmth, wisdom, and a deep knowledge of the history and culture of the trail. He didn’t just guide us along the path he brought the ancient road to life, sharing stories of samurai and insights into rural Japanese life that we would have completely missed on our own. We found our guided tour of Nagoya most enjoyable due to the knowledge and organisation of our guide Yoshi.We opted to go to Atsuta Jingu Shrine, Shirotori Japanese Garden and Nagoya Castle. Yoshi met us off our cruise ship and escorted us by train and taxi between the locations before putting us on a train directly back to the port terminal.All expenses including fares and entrance fees were paid on our behalf and came to less than £50 for the 3 of us.Yoshi is fluent in English, and was able to clearly explain all aspects of tour including history, customs and culture.We just wish we had taken more private tours like this instead of the overcrowded and hugely expensive tours organised by the cruise line.

Thank you so much very much for a wonderful day. We thoroughly enjoyed all the things we saw and did. It was also so nice to have a guide who was so knowledgeable and could answer all our questions. We learned a great deal by talking with you as well as by visiting all the places. We will definitely get in touch with you if we ever make it back to Japan!!! Ryota was our guide on this Nakasendo trail. He was very responsive, right from the start when the booking was made. He was clear with his instruction on where to meet. He also checked beforehand on what we wanted to see and do on this walk. 5 star for the follow up.

Megomejuku to Tsumagojuku was beautiful. We could imagine the olden days when the procession from Kyoto to Edo took place…

On the ride back after the walk, Ryota readily shared with us on what are the other interesting places/ areas to explore in Japan. We found out so many interesting locations from him which we would otherwise not know. The hidden gem recommendations were indeed a bonus for us.

We had a great day with Yoshi despite the full day of rain walking from Magome to Tsumago. Yoshi shared about the history and background to the Nakasendo and also brought us to a lovely spot for lunch and was great with our two boys with little gifts for them. It was a very enjoyable walk on the misty track and we were glad to have Yoshi guiding us. Highly recommended.

Amazing walk along an ancient route between 2 post towns, with stunning scenery. My guide, Yoshi, was an excellent host with a wealth of knowledge on the history and food of Japan and the area. He recommended a really traditional restaurant for lunch, which served tasty local food. Yoshi's expertise is highly recommended! I cannot thank him enough for making it an enjoyable hike.
